Community Support
Krause Group and the Krause family are proud to actively pursue opportunities for giving back time, talent, and resources. As a company, at least 10% of our profits are given back to communities we serve each year. Our purposeful, strategic philanthropy demonstrates both our company and family values.
2022 provided numerous opportunities to reflect on our philanthropic priorities, growing and evolving in our areas of support. While we have remained committed to established community investment priorities, many of our investments have evolved into true partnerships where both our Associates and the nonprofits we support, as well as the public, are able to benefit from the important resources these organizations provide.
We have demonstrated this in a variety of ways, including our support of Mental Health Awareness Month in May where we partnered with the Iowa’s Healthiest State Initiative to co-create 90—second training videos on the importance of identifying, destigmatizing, and taking care of personal mental health needs. The videos were unveiled to the public at a Des Moines Menace soccer game and were distributed to all 5,000+ US-based Krause Group Associates as an acknowledgment of the importance of prioritizing mental health care.
To broaden this reach, Kum & Go partnered with Please Pass the Love (PPTL), a Des Moines, Iowa-based non-profit organization committed to increasing comprehensive school mental health support to improve the quality of life for students, staff, and families. Along with PPTL, stickers were placed inside bathroom stalls at all 400+ Kum & Go store locations across the country with a reminder that ‘it’s okay to not be okay’ and QR codes for accessing mental health resources.
In June 2022, we partnered with Easterseals to co-create a video to educate about customer service interactions with people with different abilities. This video was shared across our 5,000 US-based Associates as well as shared publicly to allow other organizations to learn and grow. Solar Transport also showed support with their inaugural wrapped truck featuring messages about autism awareness.
Krause+ believes in the importance of providing shelter and supportive services, including mental health, to individuals experiencing homelessness and substance abuse in the Central Iowa area. As a result of their commitment, Krause+ was selected as the developer of a low-income, recovery housing project with Central Iowa Shelter & Services named Haven House. Our strong community investment strategy has made this a very important partnership.
Parma Calcio welcomed two groups, Parma Special and individuals from Paralympic Sports for a day of activities. Both opportunities allowed community members to make meaningful connections with the team while celebrating inclusion in sports.
We understand that in addition to financial commitments to nonprofit organizations, we can leverage the important work they are doing through program support, awareness building, and direct utilization of their services. We are proud of the evolution of these investments and will continue being intentional in the partnerships we form between our companies, Associates, nonprofit organizations, and the public.
In 2022 the Krause Family Foundations supported 74 organizations in the areas of arts and culture, education, faith, community betterment, and human service. Krause Group supported 190 organizations with grants, sponsorships, gift cards and product donations, raising over $1.28 million for several different non-profit organizations. Vendor and supplier relations were strengthened through nonprofit partnerships with organizations like Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, Boys and Girls Club, The Trevor Project, and RISE.
Associate personal giving is also an important component of the Krause Group culture. Associates sit on 82 boards and committees across the country, demonstrating the value of giving back time and talent. Volunteer opportunities are encouraged as team building activities. In addition to the contributions given toward the $1.28 million, Associates participated in blood drives with LifeServe Blood Center, hosted one of the largest food drives on record for Bidwell Riverside Center, collected hundreds of items for Toys for Tots, and donated nearly 300 pairs of socks to Central Iowa Shelter and Services during their annual Socktober drive.
