In 2024, Krause+ achieved a third consecutive year of reduced overall energy consumption across its buildings, driven by a 10% decrease in natural gas use that lowered its share of the energy mix from 57% to 47%. Building on this progress, the company has prioritized electrifying equipment and transitioning to more efficient models. Plans are also underway to expand recycling programs across its commercial spaces to further minimize environmental impact.

Additionally, a new sustainability initiative was launched through its partnership with Victoria Cleaners, one of only two dry cleaners in Iowa certified as an Environmental Dry Cleaner by the Dry Cleaning and Laundry Institute. This collaboration helps reduce single-use plastic garment bags, reinforcing Krause+’s commitment to practical, local solutions that support a more circular economy.

This year, Krause+ continued to invest time and energy in its community. Team members partnered with Central Iowa Shelter & Services to serve meals to neighbors experiencing homelessness, a small but meaningful way to connect with and support others. Krause+ also welcomed students from Kansas State University and representatives from OPN Architects for guided tours of the Krause Gateway Center—an opportunity to share ideas about sustainable and innovative design while encouraging learning and professional growth.

Within the spaces Krause+ creates, stories of impact unfold every day. One example is the After School Arts Program (ASAP), a tenant whose free, artist-led programming helps young people in Des Moines explore creativity, build confidence, and form connections.

Looking ahead, Krause+ is exploring new ways to support both the Krause Group community and its tenants in making a positive difference locally guided by the belief that strong businesses and strong communities grow together.

In parallel with this development work, Krause+ is collaborating with the Sustainability Team to advance responsible growth. Efforts include collecting greenhouse gas emissions data, conducting double materiality assessments, and establishing CSR goals for current and future projects. The company is also making near-term improvements, particularly in water and energy efficiency that reflect its broader commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

This approach extends beyond Iowa. The Vietti Comprehensive Plan in Castiglione Falletto exemplifies Krause+’s integrated vision for sustainability, heritage, and community impact. This phased revitalization of the estate will enhance the guest experience and operational safety while prioritizing sustainable renovation, inclusive design, and ethical sourcing. Planned upgrades include modernized production areas, expanded tasting spaces, new guest accommodations, all designed to elevate Vietti’s global presence while deepening its connection to the local community.
